Viking Medical are proud to announce two new offerings for school and college staff. These courses recognise the specific needs of staff addressing gaps left by more traditional workplace first aid qualifications like First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work. They address the need to cover CPR for children aged 1 to 18 years, staff involved in outdoor, adventurous and sporting activities and include hot/cold injuries, spinal injuries and fractures.
2-day, Level 3, First Aid for Schools and Colleges (FASch)
In the Department for Education guidance document, First Aid in Schools, Early Years and Further Education, the statutory need to provide first aid for employees under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations is set out. It also strongly recommends that non-employees such as pupils, students and visitors are provided for as well.
Viking Medical offer the ITC Level 3 Award in First Aid for School and Colleges (FASch) which helps educational establishments meet their need for provision of first aid training for their staff. Unlike First Aid at Work, which does not include paediatric first aid, this qualification covers both adults and children, including resuscitation procedures for children up to 18.
Delivery
Topics include: role and responsibilities of first aiders in schools and colleges; dealing with unresponsive adult and child casualties (both breathing and non-breathing); seizures; choking; blood loss; limb, spine, head and chest injuries; burns and scalds; eye, ear and nose issues; poisoning; anaphylaxis; major illness; cold and heat problems and minor injuries.
Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical and the course is assessed by continual observation of learner performance.
